Geotechnical surveys launched for the Lillebælt South offshore wind project

Copenhagen, July 30, 2025 – The two planned offshore wind farms in the Danish belts are progressing according to plan. After a month of test drilling of the seabed in Jammerland Bay in the Great Belt, investigations are now continuing in the Little Belt. The two future wind farms are being developed by the partners TotalEnergies, European Energy, and SONFOR.

For the coming couple of months a mobile drilling platform, a Jack-Up, will be performing drilling and testing at the 11 turbine locations in the Lillebælt South wind farm planned to produce clean energy from 2029.

The aim of these geotechnical surveys is to obtain detailed knowledge of the seabed so that turbine foundations can be planned accurately and safely.

“We are entering this important stage of further measurement of the seabed that we need for the actual design and construction phase of the turbine placement and the cable route to shore. Both the geophysical surveys, with 3D measurement, and the geotechnical surveys with test drillings are progressing as planned, and we expect to have the full data result by the end of the year”, says Zhanar Dreisig, Asset Manager at TotalEnergies Denmark.

Later this year, more onshore and offshore geotechnical surveys will be carried out for the export cables that will connect the offshore wind farm to shore, and then to the local grid.  These surveys are expected to continue until late 2025.

Comprehensive environmental assessments have been approved by the Danish Energy Agency to ensure that the necessary measures are taken to protect nature and the marine environment in the area. The technical surveys of the seabed are being conducted in line with this and with the least impact on the marine environment.

Geotekniske undersøgelser igangsættes for havvindprojektet Lillebælt Syd

København, 30. juli 2025 – De to planlagte havvindmølleparker i de danske bælter skrider planmæssigt fremad. Efter en måned med prøveboringer af havbunden i Jammerland Bugt i Storebælt fortsætter undersøgelserne nu i Lillebælt. Bag de to kommende parker står partnerne TotalEnergies, European Energy og SONFOR.

I de kommende måneder vil en mobil boreplatform, eller Jack-Up, foretage testboringer til de 11 vindmølleplaceringer i Lillebælt Syd vindmølleparken, der er sat til at producere grøn energi fra 2029.

Formålet med disse geotekniske undersøgelser er at opnå detaljeret viden om havbundsforholdene, så vindmøllefundamenterne kan planlægges nøjagtigt og sikkert.

“For Lillebælt Syd går vi nu ind i en vigtig fase med yderligere målinger af havbunden, som er helt nødvendig for den egentlige design- og anlægsfase af vindmøllernes placering og kabelføringen til land. Både de tidligere geofysiske undersøgelser med 3D-målinger og de nu igangsatte geotekniske undersøgelser med prøveboringer forløber som planlagt, og vi forventer at have det fulde dataoverblik inden udgangen af dette år,” siger Zhanar Dreisig, Asset Manager for TotalEnergies Denmark.

Senere på året vil der blive gennemført flere undersøgelser både til søs og på land i forbindelse med planlægningen af de eksportkabler, der skal forbinde havmølleparken med land og derefter til det lokale elnet. Disse undersøgelser forventes at fortsætte indtil udgangen af året.

Projektet har fået godkendt omfattende miljøvurderinger af Energistyrelsen, der sikrer, at de nødvendige foranstaltninger er truffet for at beskytte natur og havmiljø i området. Dermed gennemføres de tekniske undersøgelser af havbunden med mindst mulig påvirkning af havmiljøet.
